This is done by the dentist or dental hygienist. It is a thin, almost invisible, layer that sticks to the teeth and molars by the influence of food and bacteria. Saliva also plays a major role. Dental plaque is hard to see because it is roughly the same color as the teeth. This layer is not only on the top of the teeth and molars but also in the cavities between them. Tooth plaque that’s not removed within 24 hours will harden into tartar.
